about

Erin Go Bragh is the third CD from Matt Hughes. It is the companion to Alba Gu Brath. Where Alba features Scottish tunes, Erin features Irish tunes. Plenty of standards abound on this CD including A Nation Once Again, Foggy Dew, and Jug of Punch (featured on the Renaissance Festival Podcast). The highlight of the album however is Matt featuring the Black, Gold and Green. Matt covers songs by Pittsburgh artists The Wild Geese www.facebook.com/thewildgeeseband and Terry L. Griffith. Matt chose Bill Riley from the Wild Geese and For My Grandfathers from Terry. In addition Matt added his own tune My Life is An Irish Folk Song. He chose to cover these songs to show how vibrant the Pittsburgh Irish Scene is and the talent of its songwriters. The CD opens with The Monto, a tune he first heard from the The Dubliners and several songs that were made famous by the Clancy Brothers. The Clancy Brothers were one of the first Irish bands that he listened to. Lastly, he recorded Four Green Fields dedicated to Nora Hughes his Grandma who passed away in 2019. She was born and raised in Ireland in County Kerry. She later came to America after World War II. The CD Also features the talents of Marielle Brown who plays whistle and flute. She also provides harmony vocals on A Nation Once Again. Adam James performs the Uillean Pipes on For My Grandfathers. Lastly Susan Borowski lends her vocal talents to Four Green Fields!
